What happens when you connect an AI client

The BIA Edge MCP server is primarily a retrieval layer: it returns legal source material, provenance, and research signals. ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, or another client may generate the conversational answer and may process prompts, tool calls, and results under that provider’s terms. A response from the client is not a statement authored or approved by BIA Edge.

Data flow and separate provider controls

Your prompt is first processed by the AI client you chose. The client decides whether to call a BIA Edge tool and sends the tool name and arguments to BIA Edge over MCP. BIA Edge processes that request and returns source material and research signals to the client, which then generates or displays the conversational answer.

BIA Edge’s no-training commitment applies to BIA Edge. BIA Edge cannot set or enforce the AI client’s retention, model-training, human-review, data-residency, workspace-administrator, or connector-approval controls. Review the actual terms, agreement, and administrator settings for the AI workspace you use.

Confidential information

Do not include client identifiers or confidential facts unless they are necessary, authorized, and appropriate for both BIA Edge and the connected AI provider. For professional confidential use, use a firm-approved organizational workspace or other no-training account whose agreement and settings meet your confidentiality and retention requirements. Do not use BIA Edge as a client-file repository. See Security and Confidentiality and the Privacy Policy.
